HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT

Our history goes back to the end of the 19th century, at number 115 of the emblematic Barcelona's ramblas. Over time, it has gone through different stages and transformations.

The building that houses Barra & Art is part of the Real Academia de Ciencias y Artes de Barcelona, a building inaugurated in 1894 and designed by the architect José Doménech y Estapá. Since its foundation, this place has been a meeting point for lovers of art, culture and gastronomy.

The Ramblas and the theater, which in its early days was known as the Cine Mart and is now known as the Teatro Poliorama, are connected by a doorway, which has seen numerous theatrical performances, comedies, and commercial musicals that have enriched the lively vibe of the area.

Before becoming Barra & Art, this historic space housed the Antigua Casa Mumbrú, a well-known Barcelona delicatessen that had been operating since 1889, and in 1987, the place underwent a change when the Catalonian company Viena transformed it into a fast food restaurant.

In 2016, the establishment was recognized and protected by the Barcelona City Council as one of the city's emblematic businesses with the category E2, interest establishments. Both its interior and façade have been carefully preserved, maintaining its historical charm and its connection with the past.

Today, Barra & Art is a unique and special place that is part of the catalogue of emblematic stores in Barcelona. With its fusion of Mediterranean gastronomy, art and cocktails, it offers diners a unique experience in a setting that reflects the history and beauty of the city.

The Barra & Art ceiling is a true work of art that captivates visitors. Its pictorial decorations, with bucolic scenes and geometric shapes, evoke the beauty and charm of the Renaissance. One of the highlights are the three Renaissance celestial angels that adorn the ceiling. These angels, with their volatile robes, add a touch of grace and spirituality to the ambiance.

The painted sky on the ceiling is a real visual gem. With soft clouds in pastel shades, it creates a sense of serenity and calm. Every detail has been carefully crafted to transport diners into a world of artistic beauty and contemplation.

The magnificent pictorial decorations that adorn the ceiling of Barra & Art, remind us of the cultural and artistic legacy preserved over the years and carefully crafted to transport diners to a world of artistic beauty and contemplation.
